Eastern State Hospital

Eastern State Hospital in Lexington Kentucky is the nation's second oldest psychiatric facility in the nation. Recently the hospital has been in the headlines regarding the building of a new facility and the concern that there could be thousands of unmarked graves on property the hospital currently occupies. During various construction projects around the facility they have unearthed hundreds of skeletal remains from the hospitals past.

These pictures do not represent current patient rooms. These are abandoned areas many that are in the lower halls below ground. We were not taken through any current patient areas and we did not interact or see any patients of the facility. We were only there to tour the oldest areas.

Lexington Cemetery

I have always loved strolling around the Lexington Cemetery. It might sound strange but it is a beautiful place and in addition to being a cemetery it is registered as an arboretum. During the spring and into the summer the garden areas of the cemetery are bursting with tulips and petunias in formal landscape arrangements.
These shots were taken in the fall of 2007.
